If you’re a student trying to shop for necessities on a tight budget, it can be difficult to find anything that is both cheap and high-quality. However, many companies offer student discounts, including both physical locations in Huntsville and Decatur, and large online stores. Here are five of them that are easy to access for Calhoun students.
Please note: for the physical locations, discounts often vary from store to store, and you will probably need a Student ID card to access them. If you don’t have a Student ID card, you can make an appointment to get one here. The Huntsville Admissions office does accept walk-ins, but you may have to wait longer.
1. Goodwill
Goodwill has one location in Huntsville, one in Decatur, and one in Madison. The Goodwill franchise as a whole offers student discounts of 10%. It’s an easy place to find almost any necessity, from clothes to kitchenware to even furniture.

2. Saving Way Thrift Stores
If you can’t find what you were looking for at Goodwill, another good thrift store to try is the Saving Way. They have an abundance of locations, so if you search “Saving Way” in the maps app of your choice, you’re almost guaranteed to find one nearby. The stores I’ve been to have offered student discounts, but they vary by location– so be sure to ask the person behind the counter.
3. Amazon Prime
Amazon Prime offers a six-month free trial to students. After the trial is up, they offer a discounted price of $7.49 a month.

4. Apple
Apple offers student discounts on their products, usually around 10%. This includes computers, iPads, and more.
5. Stars and Strikes
Finally, to end on a more lighthearted note, Stars and Strikes offers massive student discounts every Thursday night. From 8pm onward, they offer $2 bowling, $2 laser tag, and a 50% discount on arcade game cards. Presenting a valid student ID is required to access these. You can find more information on their site.
