A Super Movie: The Super Mario Bros. Movie

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a well-produced journey into childhood nostalgia.

Based off Nintendo’s popular Mario franchise, this animated film was sure to be one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Surprisingly, it lives up to its enormous expectations.

As the film opens, we see two struggling plumbers, Mario and Luigi, looking for work around the city. While trying to fix the city’s flooding issues, the pair stumble upon a mysterious green tube, which kicks off their super adventure.

During their journey, audiences encounter multiple characters from the Nintendo universe. Viewers can expect to see a balanced number of good and bad guy cameos. For example, Diddy Kong, King Bomb, and a Luma (from the Super Mario Galaxy series) all make fun appearances.

In addition to these characters, audiences can anticipate seeing all of their favorite Nintendo icons: Toad, Peaches, Bowser, and Donkey Kong.

One thing I took away from the movie is how fun it is. The film has a vibrant look due to its animation, and the humor takes it to the next level. The casting is a huge plus when it comes to comedy. Jack Black, Charlie Day, Seth Rogen, and Keegan-Michael Key all enrich the humorous script with their comedic backgrounds.

Another aspect of the film that makes it really fun is the amazing soundtrack. The highlight of which is the song “Peaches” by Bowser (Jack Black). I was blown away with how catchy the song is. Jack Black surely had his “main character moment” with his performance—and nearly stole to show from Mario himself.

As of now, the box office has already grossed over $876.4 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of 2023. I definitely can see why. The movie is amazing and is something for all to enjoy.

My Rating: 10/10
