Big Bowl Thai is a restaurant located several minutes from Calhoun’s Huntsville Campus. The restaurant is small but usually has no wait. All of the meals include a very good coconut soup. The meals (except soup) also come with a salad with a great dressing. The spring rolls served with most of the meals are overall disappointing but at least add variety to the dishes.
Pricing
The prices at Big Bowl Thai are very reasonable. The lunch specials range between $11.99 and $12.99, and the appetizers are between $5.99 and $6.99.
What to Order
Chicken Satay: The Satay Chicken consists of marinated chicken skewers served with peanut sauce and cucumber salad. This dish is missing from the lunch menu but can still be ordered during lunch hours. The chicken is flavorful and tender and the peanut sauce adds sweet and nutty flavors.
Curry Drunken Noodles: The Curry Drunken Noodles are one of the more unique dishes. The dish is very similar to a pad see ew which consists of thin flat rice noodles mixed with meat and vegetables. The Curry Drunken Noodles add curry seasoning which gives the dish a more unique flavor.
Thai BBQ Chicken: The Thai BBQ Chicken is a roasted chicken thigh topped with a Thai BBQ sauce. The Chicken is both juicy and tender. The BBQ sauce is on the sweeter side and has a great depth of flavor. The dish is served with a side of fried rice which is somewhat plain but does a good job tying the dish together.
Thai Iced Tea: The Thai Iced Tea is an exceptional addition to any of the meals. Thai Tea is a spiced black tea with either condensed milk or sweetened cream. The drink has a distinct orange color. The flavor is unique and has a rich and sweet taste.
What Not to Order
Chicken and Beef Teriyaki: The chicken and beef teriyaki are served in a bento box which includes various sides. The chicken and beef are dry and the teriyaki sauce is lacking in flavor. The sushi roll is bland, and the rice is usually dried out.
