The Graduating Calhoun Nurses in an Ongoing Pandemic

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has affected millions of people worldwide and still has no sign of stopping. In order to combat this pandemic, doctors and nurses everywhere have to go above and beyond their normal workload to ensure that the problem is being effectively dealt with. This leaves a very high standard to achieve for students when going into a field such as this.

Debrah Stewart, a nursing student at Calhoun, plans to go into the field of critical care nursing at Madison Hospital. After being trained at Calhoun, she feels that she will have the “ability to protect myself and my patients.” Even after seeing the beginning of the pandemic with how little people knew about it, she “didn’t even bat an eye” and is ready to take it on straight away.

Lauren James, another nursing student at Calhoun, plans to go into the field of labor and delivery. Although the pandemic sent quite a shock to her, she remembered why she wanted to go into the field in the first place: “to help others.”

In order to combat this pandemic, Lauren will “treat every person as if I would want my family to be treated” in order to make sure every life is given the best amount of treatment they could get, like what anyone would want their family to get.

As this roaring pandemic continues to rage on, it is still unknown when it will all end. With the class of 2021 coming closer to graduating in May, the fight on COVID-19 will carry on just as strong until this pandemic is finally finished.
