ACA Book Event

Jennifer Horne and Jeanie Thompson will be meeting at Calhoun’s Alabama Center for the Arts in Decatur this Thursday (May 2). The purpose of the event is to celebrate the historical and current lives of women authors.

Jennifer Horne will be discussing her recent book, Odyssey of a Wandering Mind, which details the life of Sara Mayfield, an Alabama-based author most active in the 1960s and 70s. Horne herself is an incredibly accomplished author, serving as Alabama’s poet laureate from 2017 to 2021 with many published works.

Jeanie Thompson will be talking about her book, The Myth of Water: Poems from the Life of Helen, which is a collection of poems focused on the life and experiences of Helen Keller. She also has many other published books and collections, in addition to teaching at Spalding University.

The two authors will be leading a public conversation on their lives and careers, as well as the lives and careers of the women who inspired their books. Attendees are encouraged to join in on the discussion and to ask questions.

Admission to the event will be free. However, books will also be sold and signed at the event.
