Journalist Murdered: being a journalist can sometimes be dangerous

by Lily Winborn

A journalist of The Las Vegas Review, Jeff German, was found tragically murdered outside of his home on the morning of September 2, 2022.

According to CNN, in May of this year, German filed an investigative report on the office of Robert Telles, the Clark County Public Administrator, saying, “The Clark County Public Administrator’s office had been mired in turmoil and internal dissension over the past two years, with allegations of emotional stress, bullying, and favoritism leading to secret video-taping of the boss and a co-worker outside the office.”

Upon Telles’s loss of reelection back in June, he was identified as a suspect of the German murder early in the investigation.

Las Vegas authorities believe that Telles was waiting for German outside of his home to make the attack.

According to Cpt. Dori Koren with the Las Vegas police department’s homicide bureau, Telles went to the side of German’s home. Moments later, German went outside, and investigators believe that an altercation occurred, and German was then stabbed seven times.

Telles was then arrested on September 2, 2022, by the Las Vegas Metro Police Department for the stabbing of German.

Attacks on journalists in the United States are rare, but this can be relevant for students majoring in different types of writing careers. Dangerous things can happen in any job that you have, so it always best to take precautions on the job.

The death of one journalist, far from Huntsville, might not seem newsworthy, but the public need to know that these occurrences do happen while journalists are working to provide the public with information they need to need to know. It is a sacrifice German made, while informing the public about the actions of a public official. You wouldn’t think that would happen in America.
