Manic Adventure at the Movies: A Review of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

With Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, know that this movie comes full circle.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania follows the well-known Avenger and his family’s journey in the Quantum realm. This movie is the third film in this popular series.

Without spoiling too much of the plot, this movie has multiple storylines going on, and so much of the focus here is on foreshadowing what is to come in the Marvel Universe. You know what to expect going in. There is a miniscule world and an even smaller protagonist. Someone is trying to save the universe. Something bad is coming. Our tiny hero has to try to save the day.

This movie is one I would definitely recommend for most viewers, especially for all the Marvel fans. This one is vital to understanding the whole Marvel Universe and its lore. If you are new to Marvel or don’t know much about Ant-Man, there is still plenty of action and humor to keep casual moviegoers interested. In this film, there isn’t really a dull moment.

Speaking of the humor, this trait is one of the most memorable aspects of the movie. Marvel has always been great at comedic timing—check out the first Iron Man for some fantastic sarcastic humor or either volume of Guardians of the Galaxy. Audiences should know that there is some leniency with profanity, but it’s done really well. Everything is used to enhance the overall film.

While I personally am not a huge fan of lots of CGI, it was appropriately used here in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Just know that there is a lot of it (and it’s even a little ridiculous, at times), and it’s pretty much constant from the beginning until the end.

As expected, Paul Rudd delivered a great performance in the title role. All of the performances are fun. My personal favorite character was M.O.D.O.K. (Darren Cross), played by Corey Stoll. Stoll is hilarious the entire time, even when he’s trying to be a serious villain.

While the performances are great, there are a lot of characters, and not all of them are entirely necessary.

One of the big purposes of this film is to slowly inform the audience about the bigger plot that is to come in the Marvel Universe.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania finds itself, at its end, where it began. Like I said, it comes full circle.

My Rating: 8/10
