A Guide to Using Career Services

If you need help getting started with planning for life after graduating, Calhoun Career Services offers students a plethora of helpful information. The department gives students career advising, job search strategies, career assessments, and more! Making information accessible to students, they send weekly newsletters packed full of opportunities for various students. Whether you’re interested in healthcare, engineering, or education, the department can likely inform you about something that’ll be useful.

It can be easy to overlook the weekly emails, but you can find multiple job offers, career fairs, and internships. If you want more information, you can look at their website for more job opportunities and resources to aid your career planning.

If you’re a student who feels like you need guidance with career planning, know that it’s okay and very common to be unsure of your career path! Career Services can help reassure you. They recommend that students start with the career assessment available on the webpage.

Kelli Morris, director of Calhoun’s Career Services, also had this to say:

“Keep calm and understand you’re not alone in this! Start by taking the Focus 2 Career Assessment that is available free to all Calhoun students with the passcode warhawks. From there, schedule a career advising appointment with our team to discuss your results and begin a manageable plan of narrowing careers that interest you.”

Career planning can be daunting, but Career Services can make that process more manageable. If you need one-on-one help, the department also offers in-person and virtual career services appointments. You could discuss resumes, career plans, mock interviews, and co-op inquiries there. Career Services is here to support you!

If you are interested in any upcoming events, here are some things Ms. Morris said to look out for:

“Registration will open next week for our spring Etiquette Dinner for students. Tickets are only $15 and include networking, appetizers, and dinner! We are also looking forward to our spring job fair in Decatur on Wednesday, March 6th from 10-1 and 4-6. A full list of our events can be found on our website at www.calhoun.edu/careers.”

Overall, Calhoun’s Career Services allows students to go through their career planning process smoothly.
