Local Restaurant Review: Kamado Ramen

Kamado Ramen is a Japanese restaurant located in MidCity off Highway 72. The restaurant offers various soups in addition to several other unique dishes. The menu is on the smaller side but still has some variety.

Price

The prices at Kamado are on the higher end of what you would normally pay for ramen. The ramen is about $14, and the other dishes are similarly priced.

Appetizers

Karaage Chicken: The Karaage Chicken is seasoned and fried. The chicken is fried well, and the seasoning is perfect. The flavor is unique and has a superior taste to nearby restaurants. The chicken is served with a spicy mayo, adding an extra kick to the dish.

Bangbang Shrimp: The Bangbang shrimp are also fried well. The shrimp are tossed in their supposed signature sauce which was lacking in flavor. The flavors in the dish are disappointing, and the karaage chicken was better in every way.

Entrees

Ramen: Kamado offers a variety of different ramen that have different broths and toppings. The broth in the tonkotsu ramen was light and salty and overall very enjoyable. The broth in the shoyu ramen has black garlic oil which gives it a much richer taste than the other broths. The noodles are too firm for my taste but that is mostly up to preference. The various vegetables add a fun variety to the soup and break up the rich flavor. The egg is downright disgraceful. It is not even marinated and thus is lacking in the flavors you would expect to have in a ramen egg.

Chicken Curry Rice Bowl: The chicken curry rice bowl is a unique offering that includes chicken, curry, spinach, pickle radish, and egg omelet. The chicken is a katsu-style chicken, meaning it is fried. The chicken has a nice texture and the flavor comes mostly from the curry. The curry is good but is more like a sauce that is poured over the chicken. The spinach and pickle radish are of standard quality and break up the heaviness of the fried chicken and curry.
